Evening Format
How a High Card Kitchen night gently unfolds
High Card Kitchen is first and foremost a supper club. Each evening is designed as a slow, candlelit journey: generous plates, easy conversation, and relaxed card-table entertainment using symbolic chips with no monetary value.
Dining-led, conversation-first
Our team hosts the rhythm of the night so guests can simply arrive, settle in, and enjoy an unhurried blend of shared dishes, guided card-table moments, and plenty of space to talk.
From first welcome to final toast
Every High Card Kitchen evening follows a gentle flow. Think of it as a beautifully hosted dinner party with a little card-table theatre woven in between courses.
-
Arrival & Welcome
A warm beginning
Guests are greeted at the door by our host and team, then guided to their table with time to settle in. A signature house cocktail or refreshing mocktail is offered on arrival, setting an easy, unhurried pace for the night ahead.
If you're joining friends or meeting new faces, our hosts are on hand to help with introductions and ensure everyone feels at home from the very first glass.
-
Table Setting & Ambience
Candlelight and conversation pieces
Each table is dressed with crisp linens, artisan dinnerware and gentle candlelight. Select playing cards are placed as small conversation pieces—never overwhelming the setting, always in service of a relaxed, sophisticated mood.
Soft music, low lighting and the glow of the open dining room create a supper-club feel that invites guests to linger.
-
Introduction & House Etiquette
Gentle guidance, never a lecture
Once guests are comfortably seated, our event host offers a short introduction to the evening. They explain the supper format, the role of our table hosts and how the symbolic chips are used purely for playful structure at the card tables.
There is no monetary value attached to chips, no stakes and no pressure. We emphasise relaxed participation, light-hearted table etiquette and conversation that includes everyone.
-
Gourmet Supper Service
Chef-curated, seasonal and generous
Our kitchen team serves a chef-curated multi-course menu, drawing on Australian produce and warm, restaurant-style plating. Dishes are served at a shared, leisurely pace so guests can savour each course and enjoy the rhythm of conversation.
Menus can be tailored for private groups and corporate suppers. For a closer look at the style of dishes, visit our menu overview.
-
Supper + Poker Table Moments
Relaxed, hosted card tables
Between courses, small groups are invited to join the card tables. Our attentive table hosts explain simple, easy-to-follow rules and guide each hand so everyone can participate—seasoned players and curious first-timers alike.
The chips in play are purely symbolic, used only to keep the flow of the session moving and to add a little theatre to the table. There is no monetary value, no scores carried beyond the evening and no expectation to stay at the table longer than feels comfortable.

-
Conversation & Connection
The heart of the evening
Between hands, between courses and between seats, we make room for genuine conversation. Our hosts keep table sizes intimate and pacing relaxed so guests can connect with friends, colleagues or new acquaintances without feeling rushed.
Whether you're here for a date night, a team supper or a private celebration, the focus remains on shared stories and easy laughter.
-
Signature Pairings
Matches for every palate
Each course is thoughtfully paired with a complementary drink: considered wines, crafted cocktails and a full selection of non-alcoholic pairings so every guest can enjoy the experience in their own way.
Our team is happy to discuss preferences at the table. For corporate suppers and private bookings, pairings can be adjusted to align with your occasion and audience.
-
Private & Hosted Tables
Tailored evenings for every group
Some guests join our open supper nights, sitting alongside fellow diners. Others prefer hosted or completely private tables, with a dedicated host curating both the dining and card-table elements to suit the mood of the group.
Hosted tables are ideal for date nights or small groups, while private dining and corporate suppers allow you to shape the format—timing, menu emphasis and level of card-table focus—to your needs.
-
Evening Conclusion
A gentle closing note
The card tables wind down, conversation eases back to the supper table, and a light dessert is served. We close the evening with a final toast—often a nightcap, a tea or a zero-alcohol digestif—before guests drift out into the night.
Our team remains available to help with transport, future bookings and private event enquiries as you depart.
